Zero Waste Witchcraft with Candle Wax

Hello my pretties, the witch is back with some more zero waste witchcraft. Today, we’re going to talk about candle wax. Most witches go through a lot of candles. Like, a lot of candles. Be it spell candles, devotional candles, even just candles to create ambience and energy in a space. Sometimes after our candle has burned out we’re left with a little remainder of wax. Here are some zero waste ideas to use some of that leftover wax:

Make a new candle

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way, you can melt all of your leftovers down and make a new candle. I personally prefer not to re-use spell candle energy for a different spell. I also keep attraction and banishing energy separate. To each their own, of course, you may do whatever feels right to you. But in the event that you regularly do the same candle spell, such as a protection spell, you can melt down these candles with the same energy to make a new one. In my video I used a tealight tin because you need a lot less wax to fill those. My spell candle remnants were perfect. I just dressed this new protection candle with the same dressings I would put on my spell candles and it’s ready to carry on the protective energies.

Scent Sachets

This works best for energy or spells that attract, such as abundance, love and new opportunities. This could also apply to protection. Start by melting your wax down. If the candle isn’t already scented, you can choose to mix in some scented wax melts or essential oils. I use candy or soap molds to pour the freshly scented spell wax into. Once the molded wax is hardened, place it in a sachet bag to protect it in the event any melts or emits residue. Then place it anywhere in your home for a nice smelling wax sachet that’s embedded with magickal energy.

Fire Starters

For energy or spells that banish or any workings you feel you are completely done with and want to release the last of their energy, you can turn transform your leftover wax into a fire starter. Melt your wax remnants down and pour them into paper cupcake liners (or empty egg cartons, if you have a large quantity). Place candle wicks in the center of each fire starter. Now you can add herbs, flowers, wood chips, bark, or any other spell ingredient that aligns with your intention. Make sure anything you plan to add will not emit anything toxic when burned (even double check plant based ingredients if you aren’t sure about them). When you starter is hardened and you are ready to use it, light the wick and place under logs in a fire-safe environment to help start them.

Spell Jar Seals

Wax remnants can happen by a variety of mundane reasons. Some examples are wind, too long of wicks, candle tunneling (which happens from not burning jar candles long enough) or being slightly tilted in it’s holder. But sometimes it could be a sign that there is more magickal work that could be done, such as making a spell jar (or cardboard tube jar) with the same intention as your candle.

After creating your spell jar, melt together candle wax remains down. You can add small amounts of hot glue or sealing wax if you have them to make the wax thicker/more sturdy for sealing. Mix well and drip over your spell jar to seal it. Now your wax has served you twice by releasing your intentions by fire and sealing a beacon for that energy as well
