Spring Magick

The sun is shining, days are slowly getting longer, nature is coming back to life and my allergies are in full force! Sneezing aside, Spring is full of magick. The Spring Equinox marks the balance where the night and day are equal. The sun will grow more powerful from there, as the nights become shorter until the Summer Solstice.

I always feel like I should do something significant on the Sabbats. It's great to celebrate that way, but not always convenient, depending on what day the Sabbat lands on. It also leaves me feeling rushed, like I didn't get to truly soak in the holiday. That's why I started spreading out my Sabbat rituals to span over a longer time. If stores can start blasting Christmas music as soon as November 1st, we can totally spread Ostara out for a few weeks.

Spring Spells

Spring is a great time to do spells for fertility, new opportunities, new love, and abundance. But remember that a seed does not become a full tree overnight! Plant your seeds (your intention seeds AND your garden seeds, if you garden) and tend to them. Spring spells really are like plants. You need to figure out what kind of plant/spell you are working with and what it requires from you to help it grow. With plant seeds, you need to determine how much light and water it will need from you, right? Well, after you plant your intention seed with a spell, you need to find what can help it flourish too. For example: you can do a spell for a new job, but it probably won't fall in your lap without you sending out a few resumes!

Solar Magick

Once every month we get ready to charge our items under the light of the full moon, but right now is a great time to start working with the sun as well. Plants use the powerful rays of the sun for growth, and your stuff can too! Try charging a talisman, such as a necklace, in a sunny windowsill or hanging from a plant in your yard for a day. When you wear it or carry it around with you, you'll feel that strong sun power. Be careful with crystals in the sun! Some crystals can fade in sunlight. Don't want those beautiful amethyst babies to lose their colors! Make sure your gems are sun-safe before you try solar charging with them. If your research finds your kinds of crystals do fade in sunlight, keep those to only being moon-powered.

Spiritually Connecting with Spring

Take some time to spiritually connect with each season. It will help you become more present and grounded. Becoming more attuned to the present can strengthen your intuitive abilities too. The more you pay attention, the more you'll notice that each season has a vibration shift, a feeling, a smell even. Spend time becoming more familiar with its' special qualities. Find a park, garden or place in nature where you can see the life beginning to sprout. Listen to birds singing. Meditate outside or with open windows. What do you smell? What do you hear? Does it feel any different?

Spring Cleaning

We've been bundled up and hibernating all winter long, but now it's time for a fresh start to the new season. Open up some windows and get any stagnant energy out. It's time to let go of things that aren't serving you -- physically and emotionally. Cleaning and magick can go hand-in-hand. In fact, I strongly suggest having a mostly physically clean space before cleansing your homes' energies. Negative energies can hide in clutter.

Spring Magick Ideas:

  • Go for a walk or have a picnic in nature (park, garden, forest, beach, lake.. whatever you have near you).

  • Meditate outside or with open windows.

  • Clean a space that needs it. You don't have to do everything at once! Start with one room, closet or cupboard.

  • Cleanse your homes' energies.

  • Buy yourself some flowers or a new houseplant to bring some nature energy indoors.

  • Plant new seeds/work in your garden. Planting and tending new growth is a beautiful offering!

  • Give gifts/offerings to nature, wildlife and fae (such as birdseed, wildlife feeders, water, seashells, crystals, fae cakes, flower seeds).

  • Set up little fairy homes in your yard, garden, or even in your house plants.

  • Decorate your sacred space and/or altar with spring symbols like eggs, bunnies, lambs, bees, ladybugs, spring flowers, light colored candles (such as white, bright green, yellow), gemstones (such as citrine, rose quartz, green aventurine).

  • Make a few magickal herbal remedies to fight spring allergies (if that's something that effects you, your family or friends)
